Bend Park and Recreation District (BPRD) constructed Larkspur Community Center after a decade of planning to meet the community’s growing needs across all age groups, including active older adults who have a variety of interests and desires for fitness, recreation and social activities.
When Larkspur Community Center opened its doors on April 5, 2021, BPRD was not able to fling them wide and invite everyone in due to the public health situation. The center opened in a time of capacity limits, strict sanitation protocols, face covering and physical distance requirements.
Despite challenges, Larkspur has quickly become a place for people to connect, get back to fitness routines and a sense of normal life and maybe even try something new. In its first year of operations, there were 150,000 visits and more than 2,500 community members signed up for tours.
When: Tuesday, April 5, 9am-6pm
Where: Larkspur Community Center, 1600 SW Reed Market Rd.
What: To mark the first birthday of the indoor recreation facility, Larkspur Community Center will have treats, drawings for prizes and staff on hand for media interviews and to answer questions about the facility on Tuesday, April 5.
