Yesterday and today Redmond Fire and Rescue conducted live fire training at the Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) for our team of specially trained airport firefighters. Training will take place near the U.S. Forest Service facilities within the Airport’s perimeter fence.
Each year the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires airport firefighters to complete live fire training to maintain their qualifications. In the past, Redmond’s team of aircraft firefighters had to travel to various out of state training centers to obtain the required training. This year we have contracted with 139 Fire to bring the required training to us.
The training prop (Trainer) is a replica of the nose and body of an airplane. The Trainer is designed to provide intense, realistic firefighting conditions for the type of commercial aircraft Redmond Fire and Rescue protects at Redmond Airport.
For the first time, they were also be able to train with several mutual aid partners that would be assisting them with an actual commercial aircraft fire. Sunriver Fire Department and Jefferson County Fire District #1 attended the training event.
