Deputy Fire Chief Larry Medina received the “Award of Excellence” recently at the annual Oregon Fire Chiefs Association conference.
The nomination, which was submitted by a building official, said:
“He is always professional, courteous, committed to safety and looking for ways to perform his duties better, while injecting his great sense of humor and creating genuine friendships with his coworkers. Fifteen years ago, the Building Safety Department and Fire Prevention Department were very disconnected and even at odds with each other. The relationship now is a full 180, Larry helped institute a program of doing building and fire inspection concurrently in an effort to give the builders a consistent message and create a smooth and thereby safer transition over to fire department jurisdiction. Larry and his team have made an effort to coordinate trainings, attend code chapter meetings and have regular meetings with Building Safety Administration. Larry is a great asset to the Department, City, County and public.”
