Mt. Bachelor’s $6.5 million Cloudchaser high-speed quad chairlift will open to skiers and snowboarders on Friday, December 16, adding 635 acres of new terrain and 13 new runs, the resort announced today.
Mt. Bachelor is planning several public events at the mountain and in Bend throughout Cloudchaser’s opening weekend to celebrate the resort’s most significant expansion since 1996.
A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony at Cloudchaser’s bottom terminal begins at 10:30am on Friday, December 16. After brief remarks from Mt. Bachelor and POWDR officials, guests will load the lift and begin their discovery of new terrain on the mountain’s east side.
A contest is underway on Mt. Bachelor’s Facebook page where a lucky fan can win a ride on the first chair up the lift. The first 200 guests to board Cloudchaser will receive a winning ticket valid for a prize from Under Armour in the resort’s Gravity Sports retail shop.
Under Armour is also partnering with Mt. Bachelor to offer a scavenger hunt in the Cloudchaser served terrain on Saturday, December 17. Skiers and snowboarders can search for eight “goodie bags” scattered throughout Cloudchaser’s new runs. The hunt begins at 9am.
After dark, the action shifts away from the mountain and into Bend, where two events are planned during Cloudchaser’s opening weekend.
The Mt. Bachelor Après Ski Bash presented by Deschutes Brewery takes place Friday evening, December 16, at Crow’s Feet Commons. A Cloudchaser Celebration with 10 Barrel Brewing Company follows on Saturday night, December 17, at the Old Mill District.
Both events are free to attend and will feature giveaways, live music and beverages available for purchase.
“This is one of the largest improvement projects in Mt. Bachelor’s history,” said John McLeod, Mt. Bachelor’s president and general manager. “I am incredibly grateful to our employees and contractors, our customers, the Forest Service and POWDR for making the Cloudchaser project possible. We’re about to be rewarded with an amazing new skiing and snowboarding experience.”
Cloudchaser is Mt. Bachelor’s eighth high-speed detachable quad chairlift, rising 1,448 vertical feet along a slope length of 6,800 feet.
Although Mt. Bachelor has scheduled Cloudchaser for a December 16 debut, resort officials noted that the lift’s opening is contingent upon final component assembly and testing, planned for next week.
