Montessori in The Pines will host its grand opening from 10am-2pm. Montessori In The Pines will cater to parents of children ages 3 through 5 1/2 years old, offering a preschool and bridge-k program unique to the area. According to Lisa Maruna, school owner and head teacher, no other program like this yet exists in Central Oregon.

“It has all the strengths of a highly academic Montessori program, but with a concentration on teaching farm and homesteading skills to children,” says Maruna.

At Montessori In The Pines, children will learn how to care for chickens and bunnies, grow their own school snacks, make fabric dyes from local plants, and take nature walks at nearby Pilot Butte.

One parent remarked of school owner, Lisa Maruna, “She instills a love and respect for nature and for all flora and fauna. The kids spend as much time as possible outside, exploring their surroundings. They are encouraged to look carefully and notice the small and delicate,” said Nisha Mody, mother of student Ian. Montessori In The Pines is an authentic Montessori program operating residentially. The intimate home environment serves as a bridge for children as they prepare to transition into academic life.
