The House on Metolius has served as a private estate and retreat for more than a hundred years. The 220-acres of pristine land, uncompromised views of Mt. Jefferson and Three Finger Jack, and unimpeded access to both banks of the Metolius River make House on Metolius the perfect location for outdoor recreation.
The Main Lodge and six individual cabins can accommodate up to 30 overnight guests with plenty of additional indoor and outdoor space for meetings, special events or weddings of up to 125 people. Loy Helmly, a seasoned and long-term leader in the Pacific Northwest hospitality industry, has joined House on Metolius as general manager.
The spacious main lodge houses seven comfortable guest rooms, featuring king or queen-sized beds, private bathrooms and a number also offer in-room fireplaces. Renovation on the Main Lodge was completed in 2012 and additional upgrades have been made to the other six cabins and meeting spaces around the property. The dining space and kitchen have been reconfigured and the onsite staff provides breakfast, lunch and dinner from locally sourced ingredients. The Gorge Room, in the Main Lodge, is a spacious and comfortable place to meet, relax in front of the fire, read a book or enjoy conversation.
“House on Metolius has always been known for its pristine natural beauty and prime location on the Metolius River. I’m honored to open this fourth generation private estate to the public and lead the property to a new phase as a resort,” said Helmly. “I look forward to welcoming guests to one of the most unique locations in the Northwest.”
With two well-appointed meeting rooms and majestic views from every window, the Main Lodge is an ideal place for a corporate retreat or company meeting. Six additional individual cabins can host additional overnight guests. This majestic natural environment is a peaceful and beautiful space for those seeking professional or personal inspiration. Destination weddings, family retreats and outdoor concerts are ideal celebrations in warm weather with space for up to 125 guests in exquisite outdoor venues.
In the coming months the local community, and guests to the boutique resort, will enjoy music, culinary and outdoor recreation events unique to the area and highlighting the many features of the House on Metolius and the surrounding areas.
Both leisure and adventure travelers may partake in a wide range of year-round outdoor activities. With an elevation of three-thousand feet, typical summer weather usually means clear, warm, sunny days and cool evenings with occasional frost. Summer activities include hiking, mountain biking, bike touring and recreational climbing at Smith Rocks. Nearby Suttle Lake offers swimming, waterskiing, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boating. In winter, guests can snowshoe and cross-country ski on the property. Nearby Hoodoo ski area offers downhill and alpine skiing as well as sledding and inner tubing for everyone in the family.
The Metolius River is acclaimed for its fast-running, crystal-clear waters and pristine fly-fishing. Rainbow trout can reach up to 24 inches, and bull trout are the ‘big game’, ranging up to fifteen pounds. Designated fly fishing only, all fish caught on the River must be released.
Prior to joining the House on Metolius, Helmly was co-founder in Extra Hospitality, LLC, (EH) providing management and consulting services to resorts, hotels and hospitals in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Hawaii. Helmly was also president and CEO of the Black Butte Ranch Corporation, and was the general manager of the Salish Lodge and Spa for eight years, a luxury hotel in Washington State.
