What: The Deschutes Land Trust will dedicate and open its newest nature Preserve on Saturday, June 18. Whychus Canyon Preserve is a 450 acre property outside of Sisters. The new Preserve protects fish and wildlife habitat and two miles of Whychus Creek. The Preserve is a key step in creating a protected and restored stream corridor for the historic return of salmon and steelhead. The Land Trust acquired the Preserve after a quick 6 month capital campaign at the end of 2010.
The Dedication and Grand Opening of the Preserve will feature a brief Dedication ceremony and members of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Spring have been invited to provide a traditional blessing. A series of guided interpretive hikes will follow the ceremony.
