The City of Bend Arts, Beautification & Culture Commission (ABC Commission) has selected the ten recipients of the ABC Award 2011.
The ABC Award 2011 honors individuals, organizations and businesses that made significant contributions to the celebration, promotion, beautification or preservation of the City’s arts, culture, natural environment or public spaces in 2010.
The ABC Award 2011 winners in the Arts are: Jason Graham of Mosley Wotta, Quilt Works: Upstairs Quilt Gallery Show, R.A.M.P. The Reclamation of the Arts and Music Project, tbd Loft Community Gallery, Volcanic Theatre.
Beautification Recipients: Toyota-Scion of Bend, Vicki Brownrigg & Friends ~ Bend’s Green Welcome. Culture Recipients: Kogane/Mountain View High School Band Exchange, Southern Crossing N.A., City Club of Central Oregon ~ Table Talk.
Pamela Trow-Johnson, chair of the ABC Commission said, “Our city’s ‘abc’ experiences create a unique sense of place and distinction enjoyed by citizens and visitors alike. The ABC Awards continue to reflect the outstanding level of public arts, beautification and cultural efforts in our city.”
The ABC commissioners chose the winners from nominations submitted by community members. Selection was based on an array of criteria including the nominee’s level of community impact and uniqueness.
The ABC Commission acts in an advisory capacity, making recommendations on the appropriate role for the City of Bend to take in supporting the arts, beautification and culture, and annually identifies the appropriate City involvement in arts, community beautification and culture with emphasis on community gatherings, events, cultural tourism and the arts.
