Newport Avenue Market to host its annual Rude Rudy’s Golf Tournament, a charitable golf tournament and benefit dinner to support the Central Oregon Hunger Prevention Coalition. The event will be held at Awbrey Glen Golf Club on Wednesday, July 27; tee time is 1pm and the benefit dinner will be held at 7:30pm. The fundraising goal for this year’s event is $35,000.
The event is open to the public and is expected to bring in more than 150 community members and influential leaders in the grocery and retail business. The tournament kicks off with a shotgun start and participants play their own ball to win. The benefit dinner will be held following the tournament and will feature an award ceremony, BBQ, and Rudy will present The Hunger Coalition with the honorary donation of proceeds raised from the event.
Presenting sponsors of the tournament include Newport Avenue Market, Awbrey Glen Golf Club, Budweiser, Kraft / Nabisco, Kellogg, Pepsi and many other local companies. Efforts for recruiting players from sponsoring companies, both locally and nationally, began earlier this year in addition to community members.
For the past 28 years, Newport Avenue Market has held this golf tournament as an appreciation event for its vendors. In 2007, Owners Rudy and Debbie Dory decided to convert the event to an annual fundraiser to support local charities. Rude Rudy’s Golf Tournament has become well known in the community as a fun event for an important cause.
