Economic Development of Central Oregon says 2011 brings several exciting changes as the Bend Venture Conference celebrates its eighth year. In short, BVC will be more investor-driven, a second award for Concept Stage companies is a new addition this year, and the conference itself will be even livelier with short pitches from Concept Stage companies.
BVC is now accepting applications from both Launch Stage and Concept Stage companies. The conference focuses on companies based in the Pacific Northwest; you need not be from Central Oregon to apply or to win. Any scalable company is encouraged to apply.
Concept Stage companies now have their own pool to compete in. New this year, the winning Concept Stage company will be awarded a grant of up to $10,000. The definitions the Bend Venture Conference uses to distinguish between the two categories of competition are:
- Concept Stage: A business concept has been developed. The entrepreneurs may still be working on technology and/or proof of concept. The company is typically pre-revenue.
- Launch Stage: A complete business plan has been developed. Technology issues have been largely overcome. The company may have had beta testing or a limited rollout and is ready for market launch. It may also be post-revenue and need growth capital.
