The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted Monday to terminate the employment contract of Deschutes County Administrator Dave Kanner.
After reviewing performance evaluation standards and the expectations of the BOCC, the Board decided in a two-to-one vote that discontinuing the contract would be in the best interest of Deschutes County. The decision to dismiss the county administrator was made during Kanner’s annual review.
The Board of County Commissioners has appointed Deputy County Administrator Erik Kropp as interim county administrator.
The Board is grateful to Dave Kanner for sharing his vast knowledge and experience that has benefited Deschutes County residents in the areas of policy, procedure and finance.
“Deschutes County is fortunate to have dedicated and professional department directors and employees. While change is difficult we are confident that through department leadership, County residents will continue to receive quality customer service they have come to expect,” said BOCC Chair Tammy Baney.
The vote to terminate Kanner’s contract was a two to one vote with Commission Alan Unger voting no stating he wanted to give Kanner a chance to improve.
