It’s a Volcano – Bring the Kids!

0

Beginning Labor Day weekend, Lava Lands Visitor Center, at Newberry National Volcanic Monument, will premier puppet shows to introduce children to the wildlife that live in the lava fields.

Three different “Critters in the Cracks” puppet shows will demonstrate the variety of unique wildlife found on the Trail of the Molten Lands and the surrounding area.   The puppet shows will be a fun way for kids to learn how animals adapt to the challenges of living in the lava and how people can help the wildlife.

The puppet shows will be at 11:00 a.m. every weekend and holiday from Labor Day to Columbus Day (September 3 to October 10, 2011) at Lava Lands Visitor Center, South Highway 97, approximately 13 miles south of Bend.

“A lot of our programs focus on adults.  We want young children and families to enjoy learning about our lava landscape and these puppet shows are a perfect fit,” said Larry Berrin, Interpretive Specialist for the monument.
