Thousands of high school juniors and seniors and their parents will converge on the Deschutes County Fairgrounds on Thursday, October 6 for the 10th Annual Central Oregon College Fair. Representatives from more than 100 institutions of higher education from across the country will be on hand to meet with students and parents. The free event is open to the public and takes place in the Middle Sisters building from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

“This event provides a wonderful opportunity for students and their families to explore the world of educational opportunities available to them after graduation,” says Carolyn Platt, event organizer.

Platt said that workshops on College Admissions, Financial Aid, and Scholarships will take place from 9:30 – 11:00 am. Additionally, representatives from the Oregon Student Assistance Commission will be on hand to discuss scholarship opportunities for Oregon students.

“The reputation of our college fair and the students we produce brings colleges from all over the US and Canada to central Oregon,” says Platt.  “From ivy leagues to community colleges, technical institutes to art and culinary colleges, nursing schools to military academies, there is an institution to fit everyone’s needs.”

“It is our goal that within three years of graduation, ninety percent of Bend-La Pine Schools students will pursue post-secondary education or training,” said Bend-La Pine Schools Superintendent Ron Wilkinson. “Events like this are a great way to expose students to the vast educational opportunities that are available to them after graduation.”
