COCC’s Visiting Scholar Program Hosts Robert Julien

The Central Oregon Community College Foundation’s Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program, the Associated Students of COCC and the college’s Social Science department are sponsoring a lecture by respected pharmacologist Robert M. Julien, author of the definitive textbook “A Primer of Drug Action.”

Julien will give two presentations on Friday, Nov. 18, in Wille Hall in the Campus Center on the Bend Campus. The student-focused presentation, “New Drugs and Adventures in Drugs of Abuse: Of Crocodiles and Spice,” will take place from 3-4:30pm. “Cognitive Effects of Psychoactive Drugs: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” will be from 6-7:30pm. Dr. Julien will take questions from the audience following his hourlong presentations.

Previously an associate professor of pharmacology and anesthesiology at Oregon Health Sciences University, Dr. Julien practiced anesthesiology in Portland until 2006. An acclaimed teacher and author, he recently published the 12th edition of his psychopharmacology textbook, “A Primer of Drug Action: A Comprehensive Guide to the Actions, Uses and Side Effects of Psychoactive Drugs.” With 30 years of continuous publication, this book is regarded as the definitive textbook of psychopharmacology, covering both psychotherapeutic agents as well as substances of abuse.
