Maragas Winery Hosts Barrel Tasting

Maragas Winery will be holding its third Annual Barrel Tasting on Saturday, November 26, 10am to 5pm. This year’s event is free with the donation of three cans of food per person. As with our other events at Maragas Winery, this event will also aid a charitable organization that is vital to helping those less fortunate in our area. They have chosen Neighborhood Impact to be the recipient of its efforts this year. Among other roles, Neighborhood Impact runs the Central Oregon Food Bank.

Doug Maragas, founder of Maragas Winery, said: “Since the Holiday season is upon us and since we love our food and wine here at Maragas Winery, this event will feature, you guessed it, Food and Wine!   You’ll be barrel tasting our 2008 Reserve ‘M’– a Meritage blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. We’ll also be releasing our 2007 vintage of ‘M’ and our barrel fermented and barrel aged chardonnay.”

And, what would sampling wine be without sampling food. “We love the concept of farm to table (that’s what we do) and we’re bringing five farms to you to sample the food made with some of Central Oregon’s finest ingredients,” added Maraga.

Welcome Cada Dia Cheese from Prineville, Juniper Grove Cheese from Redmond,   Bishop Farms Lamb from Bend, Dancing Cow lamb and beef from Prineville, and of course Maragas Winery grape leaves stuffed with their own farm veggies from Culver.

Maragas said: “Thanksgiving weekend is the traditional time for Oregon Wineries to open for Barrel Tasting, and being a holiday centered around food, what a great idea to combine it with some of the best local farm to table food Oregon has to offer. And since it’s a time to be thankful for the food on our tables, we’re sharing our bounty through the Oregon Food Bank.

So, bring three cans of food, a smile, and your own glass to the barrel tasting. Yes, this is a BYOG event — bring your own glass. With this, admission is free without it, bring $10 to partake.

With the food and wine sampling, live music will be provided by Central Oregon’s own Jim Lee. Cowboy Ballads and Barrel Tasting.

Maragas Winery was established in Bend in 1999 and moved 25 miles north, to 40 acres adjacent to Highway 97, eleven miles south of Culver, in 2006. Initially obtaining its grapes from vineyards in other areas of Oregon, California, and Washington, the winery is now growing its own estate fruit.

Maragas produced the first wine made entirely of Central Oregon grapes in 2009 which earned a silver medal in the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

The complete line of Maragas Wines are available exclusively at Maragas Winery & Vineyard, on Highway 97 between the Terrebonne High Bridge and the town of Culver, at the Maragas Winery Taverna in Bend on the corner of Colorado and Bond, and online.
