The City of Eugene has awarded locally-owned (with offices in Eugene and Bend) Obsidian Technologies, a technology solutions provider, with an exclusive contract to replace the legacy phone system with a turnkey IP Telephony solution city-wide. The contract, won through a competitive bidding process, commenced on August 30, 2011 and plans for a 24-36 month roll out.
Under the new agreement, the City projects substantial savings each year and is taking an important step toward modernizing and unifying communications throughout City departments.
“The City of Eugene will experience immediate benefits,” said Tony Foy, President of Obsidian Technologies. “The new system will allow the City to administer and manage content internally, eliminating external maintenance fees it previously incurred.”
Randy Kolb, information services director for the City of Eugene, said that Obsidian Technologies provided the most advantageous range of services for the City. “Their knowledge and experience match our needs in transitioning from a traditional phone system to voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The fundamental goals of the VoIP project are to improve communications internally and with the public; increase productivity and efficiency; and lower operating costs, ultimately improving greater public service.”
