BendFlyFishing.com Debuts First Fly Fishing DVD

BendFlyFishing.com, a new business to Bend, announces the debut of their first fly fishing DVD, Fly Fishing the Cascade Lakes.

Created by Daniel Biggs and Ryan Smith, two local Bend guys, the DVD highlights eleven Cascade lakes:  Sparks, Elk, Cultus, East, Davis, Hosmer, Big Lava, Paulina, Diamond, Crane Prairie Reservoir and Wickiup Reservoir. The video reveals where and when to go, what species of fish to expect, tips for fishing each lake and how to tie five successful lake flies.

As the film progresses, the fish grow in size with each chapter, finishing with the climatic last three chapters reeling in big fish from Paulina Lake, Diamond Lake and Crane Prairie Reservoir. Even if you are not a fly fishing person, the video will still appeal to canoeists, kayakers, photographers and the general adventure monkeys of Bend. A free preview is available at BendFlyFishing.com. The DVD sells for $15 online and there will be DVDs available at the premiere.

Smith, a Bend native, presently works at the Pine Tavern as a waiter and has fished Central Oregon since he was six.  Biggs, who is a waiter at McMenamins, grew up in La Grande, Oregon and has a commercial photography degree from the Art Institute of Seattle and does local and stock photography (Obsidian Stock and Super Stock). His client list includes:  Pronghorn, Be-Bop Biscotti, The Jackelope Grill, McMenamins, Golf Digest and Bend Film Festival.

“I have shot local events and my stock has been printed in magazines and publication expanding to other countries,” reports Biggs.  His personal portfolio can be found at http://danielbiggsphotography.com.

Biggs and Smith have day jobs but possess that they just love fly fishing

“The DVD was created to be instructional with chapters dedicated to each lake for quick reference as a guide before you head up to fly fish the Cascade Lakes,” says Biggs. “Because this is our first fly fishing DVD production, I want to express that this is not a hi-budget film, but offers beautiful and useful content, which I felt was most important. This is the humble beginning to our new business, BendFlyFishing.com, which was built to share fly fishing DVDs. “We have a great business vehicle, we just need to keep pushing it along until we get more momentum. We have already begun planning our next DVD, Fly Fishing for Big Lake Trout. We have come across a lot of support for our next film including video editors, videographers, fly fishing guides, and we are working on getting some sponsorship. You learn every time you try something new, and I truly believe our next video will really launch us into the fly fishing world. “We will be using unconventional fly fishing methods and tying 8 to 12-inch handcrafted streamer flies to go after these big lake trout. I don’t believe you have to travel around the world for huge lake trout, there right in our back yard.”

The video will be premiered at the McMenamins Old St. Francis theatre on March 8.  Doors open at 8:30pm, show starts at 9pm, $7, age 21 and up, (tickets available at the door).
