Construction and remodeling projects are underway on the COCC Bend and Redmond campuses to accommodate COCC’s increasing enrollment since 2006. The majority of the construction funding comes from a $41.58-million bond measure approved by voters in 2009 and state funding.

Health Careers Building: This 48,000-square-foot building will provide up-to-date classroom and labs for the following programs: RN and LPN nursing programs, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, Dental Assisting and Licensed Massage Therapy. Surface finishes proceeded throughout the building, and exterior wood siding installation continues as weather allows. The building is on schedule to be completed by April 30. General contractor: HSW Builders.

Science Building: The installation of windows, skylights and wood siding continues. Sheetrock and ceiling grid installation continues and restroom rough-ins are in progress. The installation of stonework at the entryway has begun. The 49,000-square-foot building will be ready for fall term 2012. General contractor: Kirby Nagelhout Construction Company.

The Chandler Lab Renovation Project to refurbish space at 1027 NW Trenton Avenue for use by the college’s Community Learning department and Small Business Development Center continues in the design phase. The Chandler Lab is located on a six-acre site on Awbrey Butte that has been used by the Bend Science Station. The Construction bids were received on Feb. 29, and construction is expected to start this month and be completed by June.

A 2,300-square-foot addition to Building 1 at the Redmond Campus will house a new 48-seat classroom and 24-seat science lab. Remodeled space within Building 1 will accommodate a 34-seat computer lab. The architects are developing concepts and associated costs for the various options requested by the instructional programs. The goal is to begin construction this summer and complete the project by winter term 2013.

The Technology Education Center, on the corner of Veterans Way and Salmon Drive in Redmond, will house technology-centered programs. Design development is proceeding and is expected to be completed by mid-March. The site plan application has been submitted to the City of Redmond. Project completion is anticipated by September 2013.

A new student residence hall will provide approximately 325 beds for student housing. Mahlum Architects have been selected to design the building, and the field survey began in late February. The building is scheduled for occupancy by fall 2014.
