The state representative announced two upcoming town hall meetings focusing on how seniors can protect themselves from abuse. Both town halls meetings will be held on April 16 in Bend. The first will be at 2:30pm at the Aspen Ridge Retirement Community, and the second will begin at 6:30pm and be held at the Fox Hollow Independent and Assisted Living Community.
“We passed important legislation during the February session that will help protect seniors from physical and financial abuse,” Rep. Conger said. “We will have experts on hand to explain the new law so people can protect themselves and take appropriate action when needed.”

The event is being held in coordination with the Oregon Health Care Association who worked with Rep. Conger and other legislators to pass new elder abuse prevention legislation through House Bill 4084 in February. The legislation:
- Increases time to prosecute crimes against seniors
- Makes it harder to expunge crimes against seniors from criminal records.
- Creates Resident Safety Review Councils to create added oversight
- Allows law enforcement officials conducting an investigation into potential abuse of an elderly person to access medical records and consult with the victim’s doctor.
- Launched a 24-hour a day, seven day a week elder abuse hotline.
- Improves quality and detection of abuse investigations.
