Coffman Vision Clinic Expands into New State-of-the-Art Facility

Fourteen years ago, Dr. Michael Coffman followed his dream and purchased an optometric clinic – Express Optical – now Coffman Vision Clinic. His aspirations and foresight have created a successful practice that on June 12 will open its newly expanded clinic and showroom in the Bend Fred Meyer Plaza.

What has evolved is a thoroughly state- of-the-art practice based on a strong desire to educate patients about their vision and support them in choosing the best eyewear for their particular vision limits and lifestyles.

The practice is based on a medical model, equipping a most diligent, expert staff of ten (10) with state- of-the-art optical technology, a full spectrum of the latest lenses and fashion forward frames. Dr. Amanda Balsalobre joined in 2011 and is a welcome addition to the team. The practice continues to grow as word-of-mouth generates more and more referrals for the ever-evolving Coffman Vision Clinic.

Located in the Bend Fred Meyer Plaza on South Highway 97, some might know Dr. Coffman by his early forays into advertising — “the eye doctor with a sense of humor.”  Or “the one who holds the goofy signs in his ads.” Both claims happen to be true.  Dr. Coffman’s love of theatre and comedy propelled him into building a substantial resume of acting credits including Jake’s Women, HMS Pinafore, Sylvia, and several local television commercials and movies. And perhaps his most unforgettable theatre performance yet: 2009 and 2010 Evil Dead:  The Musical in which Coffman played the role of redneck-turned-zombie, Jake. His total commitment to the character and his acrobatic antics left the audience out of breath and aching from non-stop laughter.

Dr. Coffman’s character portrayals reveal an ever-present and very real theme for his own life – a commitment to excellence. It was not theatrics that built the thriving practice that is today’s Coffman Vision Clinic. Instead, it was enthusiasm, a genuine desire to help people, and a professional work ethic that created the well-oiled efficiency that is Coffman Vision today.

Any patient of Dr. Coffman knows that his eye exams are extremely thorough. One is not rushed through at this clinic.  At the same time, efficiency is very important.

Another key to Coffman’s success is his commitment to cutting edge technology and the highest standards of care.  Patients have the option to utilize the exceptional Optomap diagnostic tool — which takes a digital image of the inside of the eye, and is very good at detecting pathologies such as retinal holes, bleeds, and freckles. The Optomap helps set Coffman Vision apart from other optometric practices in Bend by giving patients a choice in how their eye health care will be evaluated. Early detection of health problems and vision issues can prevent years of complications and surgery.

Along with the new office space (just three doors down from the current office), Coffman Vision Clinic is installing a new Visioffice machine. This is the latest breakthrough in eyeglass lens customization. The precision and detail that goes into this optical evaluation system ensures the very best possible clarity and visual comfort for individual patient needs.  Coffman believes this is important to the future of vision correction, as many problems can now be resolved that were unable to be addressed by the previous traditional methods of eyeglass fitting.

Coffman Vision Clinic has thankfully been able to keep their prices the same while also expanding the clinic, adding staff, and upgrading the décor in the new office. Most insurance plans are accepted, and reasonable no-interest financing plans are available for uninsured patients as well.

Another notable upgrade to the new and improved clinic is an expanded list of frame manufacturers including Vera Wang, Banana Republic, Betsey Johnson, Safilo, Tommy Hilfiger, Rayban, Seregetti, Bolle, and Prada. The addition of the new frame lines will help give patients a more diverse range of eyewear options to choose from. Patients who desire name brand and boutique eyewear can shop side by side with the more budget-minded patients. Combined with 1-hour lens edging services, Coffman Vision Clinic built a business based on great customer care, efficiency, and reasonably priced, great-looking eyewear.

The new clinic opens for business on June 12 and on July 13 everyone is invited to join in the Grand Opening Suite 16 Party. (The office is moving to suite #16). There will be live music, multiple prize drawings (valued at up to $2,000), a fashion frame show, refreshments and an art display by local photographer, David Kamperman.

Coffman Vision would like to give special thanks to the talents of SunWest Builders, Roy Kroll Architect, Made to Order Woodwork, B & L Woodwork, Sasse Systems, Carlson Sign, Bendbroadband, Fred Meye, and the City of Bend. And also to all of their supporters and loyal patients: “We’ll see you in our beautiful new clinic in Suite #16.”
