Assistance League of Bend received a $25,000 contribution to assist with Operation School Bell. The grant, which was given to the non-profit organization through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program, will serve to dramatically increase the number of school children served through this program.

“Assistance League of Bend cannot thank the Walmart Foundation enough for its consideration in selecting Operation School Bell as recipient of this most generous grant. This award will most certainly serve to increase the number of school children we are able to reach. Assistance League is most grateful to Walmart for its commitment to improving the lives of the young people within our community,” Carolyn Blake, Assistance League of Bend President.

Assistance League of Bend is one of the more than 120 chapters of Assistance League, a national nonprofit organization that puts into action the caring and commitment it takes to improve the quality of life for children and adults in our community. For fiscal year 2011 – 2012, its 145 dedicated members volunteered over 17,900 hours and touched the lives of more than 3,700 children and adults in the communities of Bend and LaPine through its philanthropic programs. The strength of our volunteers is our success.

“The Walmart Foundation is very pleased to be supporting Assistance League of Bend and is committed to helping those in need in the communities where we serve,” said Jennifer Spall of Walmart. “Through this grant, we are hopeful that children in Bend and Deschutes County will be able to start the school year without the impediment of ill-fitting shoes and clothing, thus allowing them to better concentrate on forging a more successful future for themselves.”

The contribution to Assistance League of Bend was made possible through the Walmart Foundation’s Oregon State Giving Program. Through this program, the Walmart Foundation supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better. The Walmart Foundation State Giving Program strives to award grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S.

To be considered for support, prospective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application. Applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria.
