The Oregon High Desert Classic is one of the largest, longest running and most prestigious horse shows in the Northwest as well as being a USEF AA-rated hunter and jumper competition. More than 500 professional and amateur equestrians from locations along the West Coast and Canada will compete, with the event showcasing equestrian talent on a world-class level.
The Classic I contest goes from July 18-22 and the Classic II contest lasts from July 25-29; both events are held at the J Bar J Boys Ranch in Bend. Competitions for riders of all ages and abilities will go from 8am-5pm each day and will be run simultaneously in six rings.
Two separate Grand Prix events, in which elite horses and riders compete for $25,000, will be organized as well. The Oxford Hotel Group Grand Prix will be held on July 21 at 4:30pm with the Sheri Allis Memorial Grand Prix taking place the next weekend on July 28, starting at 4:30pm.
Dinner will be served at both Grand Prix events, featuring a ringside table for unmatched views of the competition and a meal from Tate & Tate Catering; wine is included with dinner as well. Individual seating and tables of eight are available for purchase, but space is limited and the event is expected to sell out.
In addition to riders, horses and spectators, vendors will also be present at the Village Green. Food, beverages, equestrian supplies, clothing and gifts will be available. Onlookers are encouraged to bring low-rise lawn chairs to watch from, and admission is free for all events.
Profits from the High Desert Classic directly benefit J Bar J Youth Services, a nonprofit organization specializing in prevention, intervention, treatment and education. The group is one of the largest regional youth service providers east of the Cascade and includes programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon, Cascade Youth and Family Center, Living Options for Teens and J Bar J Boys Ranch.
