The Association of Fundraising Professionals Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter (“AFP”) will honor BendBroadband with the“Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation”award Wednesday, November 14 at the 2012 Philanthropy Awards Luncheon.
The award for Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation recognizes a community-minded corporate citizen that, through their foundation, corporate giving program, or employees, commits significant resources to assist organizations in meeting community needs. BendBroadband is being recognized for its extensive support of organizations and communities in Central Oregon. BendBroadband provides significant support to community groups though event sponsorships, cash contributions, free and discounted service, along with staff time and in-kind media..

The 26th annual luncheon will be held during the week of National Philanthropy Day, which recognizes the contributions of philanthropy and those people active in the philanthropic community. Lorry I. Lokey, Vollum Award for Lifetime Philanthropic Achievement
Lorry I. Lokey is a Portland native who has received national recognition for his wide-spread philanthropy. He was one of the first signers of the Gates Buffet “Giving Pledge,” in which individuals pledge to give the majority of their wealth to charitable purposes. Lorry created an Endowed Chair within the Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies at Portland State University and has donated more than $132 million to the University of Oregon and given similar sized donations to Stanford University and Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. The Vollum Award for Lifetime Philanthropic Achievement recognizes individuals who have tirelessly committed themselves to bettering their community through serving, funding and enlisting support for a range of community charitable causes.
Bob and Charlee Moore, Outstanding Philanthropist
Bob and Charlee Moore, co-founders of Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, announced a goal to end the rise of chronic illness caused by unhealthy eating and inadequate nutrition by donating $25 million to create the Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition and Wellness at OHSU. They have also funded nutrition-related programs at Oregon State University and the National College of Natural Medicine. The award for Outstanding Philanthropist pays tribute to an exceptional individual donor who generously provides a lead gift or substantially assists a nonprofit organization.
Northwest Health Foundation, Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation
Northwest Health Foundation is a leading proponent for health and healthy communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Since its inception in 1997, Northwest Health Foundation has invested more than $70 million in more than 1,000 projects. The award for Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation recognizes a community grant making organization that offers encouragement and motivation to non-profits and grant makers while supporting nonprofit organizational goals.
Clark County Food Bank, Outstanding Volunteer Group
Clark County Food Bank is honored for its commitment to food security in Southwest Washington by mobilizing volunteers and donors to raise $4.2 million in private gifts and government support to build a new 18,000 square foot Clark County Food Bank Distribution Warehouse and continuing their volunteerism to feed community members each day. The award for Outstanding Volunteer Group recognizes that volunteers are the lifeblood—they start, support and/or enhance the programs and services that organizations provide and can make the difference in an organization being able to serve its community.
Alazar Manning, Youth in Philanthropy
Alazar Manning, 12,is honored for his extensive fundraising and outreach efforts for the Cascade AIDS Project and numerous other causes such as his school’s Outdoor School trip. The award for Youth in Philanthropy celebrates young people who have improved the community and increased opportunities for others through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering and leadership in philanthropy.
DonorsResource.org, Outstanding Innovative Project
DonorsResource.org is honored for connecting individual and corporate donors who want to give in-kind (non-monetary) donations to non-profit organizations that need them. Founded by Sisters of the Community, DonorsResource.org provides a search engine that allows donors to find non-profit groups in need. The award for Outstanding Innovative Project recognizes groups demonstrating exceptional innovation and creativity resulting in broad-based community impact. Their events excel at building support, raising funds and increasing public understanding.
