VOLUNTEER CONNECT: Make It a Day On, Not a Day Off!

0

Volunteers throughout Central Oregon will join hundreds of thousands of Americans who are participating in MLK Day of Service projects in all fifty states on January 21, 2013. This national day of service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, addresses social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”

Volunteer Connect invites Central Oregonians of all ages to participate in our 4th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service!

Last year, Volunteer Connect’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service engaged over 350 volunteers in 25 different projects for over 1,000 hours of service to the community.

This year’s event, on Monday, January 21, 2013, we estimate there will be 25 morning service projects with locations in Bend, La Pine, Prineville, Redmond, Madras, and Sunriver. Projects will take place from 9am-12pm, and afterwards all volunteers are invited to a complimentary lunch and community discussion to reflect on their experiences.

We have a great variety of projects this year! Some examples of the volunteer projects are building a house with Bend Area Habitat for Humanity; picking, arranging and delivering flowers to hospice patients with The Bloom Project; and cleaning at the Redmond and La Pine St. Vincent de Paul chapters, to name a few.

Projects are available for groups, individuals and volunteers of all ages, and interested volunteers are encouraged to visit our webpage to sign-up for a project and to browse our full list of projects at www.volunteerconnectnow.org à What’s Happening.

Volunteer Connect also welcomes community members to contact us directly to discuss all the options personally 541-385-8977.
