Prospective University of Oregon students must complete applications by January 15.
Those whose New Year’s resolutions include attending one of the nation’s best universities should take note that the University of Oregon’s January 15 application deadline for fall 2013 is rapidly approaching.
The UO has seen increasingly high application volume in recent years. For that reason, it’s more crucial than ever to meet the deadline for admission to the UO.
In 2012, the UO was named one of Forbes Magazine’s 100 best research universities, one of Kiplinger’s 100 best values in public colleges and was listed among the top 8 percent of national universities according to U.S. News and World Reports.
“The University of Oregon is proud to attract students from every region in Oregon,” said Brian Henley, the UO’s director of admissions. “This year, we hope to enroll even more of our state’s brightest students.
“When we review admission applications, we look for strong academic preparation in the courses taken, grades earned, and the potential and motivation demonstrated in the application essay,” Henley said. “Essentially, we hope to enroll students from a wide array of backgrounds who are well-prepared to be successful at the UO. The applications we’ve already received are inspiring, and we’re excited to shape the new freshman class.”
The new Summit and Apex Scholarships will be awarded to UO freshmen students starting in fall 2013. Incoming freshmen who apply for admission by Jan. 15 and meet the criteria will be automatically awarded the Summit or Apex scholarships. No separate application is required.
Oregon top scholars are eligible for up to $20,000 over four years with the Summit Scholarship or $12,000 over four years with the Apex Scholarship, based on meeting minimum high school grade point averages and minimum scores on SAT or ACT tests.
The admission application, including instructions, is available online at admissions.uoregon.edu/apply.
After prospective students have met the Jan. 15 application deadline, there are two other key deadlines for them:
- Feb. 15 is the deadline for all supporting documents, such as transcripts and standardized (SAT or ACT) test scores.
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be completed in January, for students to be eligible for federal and state financial aid and some UO scholarships.
