Daily, nonstop service begins Monday, June 12.  The new service will operate daily using a 50-seat Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft.

At a press conference this morning at the Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM), American Airlines announced it will offer nonstop service between RDM and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) beginning June 12.

American Airlines Managing Director of Government Affairs Dale Morris made the announcement to community and business leaders at a press conference at Redmond Municipal Airport this morning, and paid tribute to the strength of community support – including the raising of almost $400,000 in pre-paid travel commitments in just 12 days – as a major factor in the decision to launch the new service.

He said: “It takes community support and partnership to make a success, and we are proud of the way this community pulled together to make this happen.

“American Airlines conducted sophisticated studies to project the chances for the service, and the indicators were good and we see great opportunities for both business and recreational travelers in both directions.

“Any new service, especially concerning non-hub markets, is something of a risk, but when communities are willing to step up and form true partnerships aided by robust marketing campaigns, it is a recipe for success.”

Morris added that there would be “competitive” introductory fare offers with information available on packages and booking options via American Airlines website: www.aa.com as of this Sunday, April 7. He also indicated that if the service proved a success, the company would have an open mind regarding “other opportunities” out of Redmond.

Deschutes County Commissioner Alan Unger added: “I think we will look at today as the most important event in 2013, and the recognition of that fact and what a regional asset this new service will be is evidenced by the attendance of numerous city and county leaders here today.

“American Airlines gave us a high bar to meet and we met it. This new service will help our businesses, economic development, communities, resorts and recreation and gives us a balanced full service in all directions which sets us apart from other communities in the North West.”

The announcement was made in conjunction with the Central Oregon Air Service Team (COAST), which includes representation from the City of Redmond, Redmond Chamber of Commerce, Redmond Economic Development Inc., Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) and Central Oregon Visitors Association (COVA), who have been in negotiations with the airline for several months.

“We’re delighted to provide service from Redmond and Eugene to our hub in Los Angeles,” said Charles Schubert, American’s vice president – network planning. “This schedule will give customers seamless access to Los Angeles and allow them to connect through this key international gateway to destinations throughout the American Airlines and oneworld® global network.”
