Deschutes Public Library to host Central Oregon Showcase for two screenings. The 1st–3rd-place winners in the 10–14-year-old category, 15–18 and Adult categories will be screened at the La Pine Library and the Downtown Bend Library. The screenings are free and open to the public.
Now in its second year, the Central Oregon Film Festival is a local community film contest and festival. “Our intention is to get people off the couch and inspire them to learn the film making process,” said Shannon Winegar, Events Coordinator for Central Oregon Showcase and festival organizer. According to Winegar the focus of Central Oregon Showcase is to spotlight local talent as well as promote positive creative expression. “We were amazed by the high quality of the film entries this year, especially in the youth categories! There was a wide range of genres submitted, including comedy, documentary and serious social and political drama.”
Teaching the skills that filmmaking requires is central to the mission of Central Oregon Showcase. During the months leading up to the film submission deadline Central Oregon Showcase offered classes in scripting and editing at the Redmond and Jefferson County Libraries. “I think the benefits of learning the art of filmmaking is to be able to express your views, opinions, creativity and general quirkiness in a visual format,” says Winegar.
