The induction ceremony was held in conjunction with the annual Cable Show, which was June 10-12 in Washington, D.C. This is the 16th year the cable industry has honored its own. A committee of industry peers and leaders selects Hall of Fame honorees based on their outstanding dedication to and impact on the cable industry.
Tykeson was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame together with John M. Egan (chairman, Evolution Digital),
James P. Mooney (principal and managing partner, JLM Partners – posthumously), Timothy P. Neher (partner, Pilot House Associates), Richard Parsons (senior adviser, Providence Equity Partners) and Josh Sapan (president and CEO, AMC Networks).
As a Cable Hall of Fame honoree, Tykeson joins cable legends such as Ted Turner (founder of Turner Broadcasting System), Dan Aaron (co-founder and former president of Comcast), Bill Bresnan (former chairman and CEO of Bresnan Communications) and John Goddard (former president and CEO of Viacom Cable, now a board member at BendBroadband).
“I never dreamed I would receive this recognition and this honor,” Tykeson told the online magazine CableFax. “My entire adult life has been spent working in cable. I have made so many wonderful friends, been exposed to such talented and smart people. I’ve had the good fortune to be mentored by remarkable men and women. I am lucky to be part of this extraordinary business and grateful for all it has given back to me.”
The event was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, however The Cable Hall of Fame is located within The Cable Center at the University of Denver. The show was emceed by NBC’s chief foreign affairs correspondent, Andrea Mitchell.
