General contractor is a common term in
Sonne says, “There was no competition to raise prices per square foot of houses, we just were hired by our fellow community members and we did the best job we could at the most reasonable prices, and at the end of the day that felt good.”
After several years of perfecting his concrete work and growing a thriving business, Sonne became a general contractor.
“I built houses from 1,000 square feet to much larger homes selling for $2.5 millions. One didn’t feel different than the other; each house was very important to whomever I was building it for and I treated it that way.
“I never built numerous speck homes for people I didn’t know, I got to know each client and was able to give them exactly what they wanted that way.”
Eventually Sonne wanted to try living somewhere else, so he moved to
Right away he knew this is where I was meant to be. “I started a few houses again, and then came the crash,” he explained. “I had never seen this town like that, work was less than sparse. My wife encouraged me in the dry spell to go back to school. I went and got my paramedic/firefighter degree and got a job as a paramedic/firefighter in Prineville.
Sonne created JS Contracting, inc. in 1996. He only takes on a few houses at a time so he can have his hands on every step of the way. “Each home is built to fit the needs of the homeowner,” Sonne explains who offers a 10 year warranty on each home, because he is confident in the quality of each home he builds.
“After 16 years of experience life and work I am so happy and thankful to be a part of this community,” Sonne concludes. “I have experienced marriage, divorce, children, a bout of cancer, good economy, and bad economy, and couldn’t be more thankful for each experience. I feel so fortunate to raise my family here, and be a part of this community. I get to build homes for the residents by day and save live by night. I’m back right where I want to be!”
