Bend Research Hosts Science Day at Boys and Girls Club in Bend

With the help of Lisa Maxwell and Derek Beauvais, senior scientists at Bend Research will be hosting Science Day at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon Bend at the downtown Club, 500 NW Wall Street on August 9.

As part of their community outreach efforts, Bend Research will be performing science demonstrations for over 400 kids on topics related to essential concepts in chemistry and physics. In addition to one hour of science demos for kids of all ages, four stations will be set-up around their facility to discuss specific topics such as polymers, electrostatics, phases of matter and physical properties which exist in outer space. Kids will work in smaller groups in these stations and have an opportunity to interact with different scientists.

Since 1998, Bend Research has hosted many different educational groups twice a month from January through June to participate in Science Night at their Tumalo facility. A few times during the summer, Bend Research will take their show on the road to share these topics and demos with the kids of the Boys and Girls club. With school starting up again soon, they want to get them excited about science and begin to think about the fundamental concepts behind many of the things they do and talk about every day.

If you are interested in getting more information about Science Night at Bend Research, or you have other possible activities in mind which Bend Research might be able to support as part of their community outreach efforts, you can call 541-382-4100 and ask for Franz Lembke.
