Lovejoy’s Neighborhood Market brings growler filling and beer knowledge to Southwest Bend Filling a growler (or growlette) just got a little more convenient and fun for residents in the southern part of Bend with the recent opening of Love Handles Growler Depot located inside Lovejoy’s Market.
The locally-owned neighborhood grocery store recently expanded their signature ‘Shop, Eat, Smile’ philosophy with 12 tasty tap handles and accompanying novelty shirts, caps, growlers, and Silipints. Stop by Lovejoy’s and you’ll find them encouraging Central Oregonians to “Put Some Love In Your Jug”, the tongue in cheek tagline that is unique to their sparkling new Growler Depot.
Also unique to the newest growler fill location is its resident expert and self-proclaimed ‘Growler Girl’, Sam, who brings her vast knowledge and love of beer to the area.“So many people here in Bend have a love affair with beer and I’m definitely one of them!” Sam said recently when asked what she likes most about her job.“Taking the time to get to know everyone, talking about what they like to drink and sharing my passion for beer is exciting.
We all have our favorites, but I like to encourage people to try something new when they are here. Getting reactions when folks are sampling our selections helps us make sure we have a constant rotation of local favorites on tap.”Typically pouring only Oregon selections, the Love Handles Growler Depot boasts a large selection of Bend brews and has a gluten free option in addition to a selection from a local winery.
Customers are encouraged to let Sam and the other growler staff what they would like to see on tap.“Some people think a growler is too much for them to drink,” Sam added. “But it’s actually about the equivalent of a six-pack. Either way, we have custom Love Handles growlers (64 oz.) and growlettes (32 oz.), so if you don’t own a growler you can walk out with a new one with local pride!
