Workshops Slated for USDA Grants for Farms & Rural Businesses

0

Bend contractor E2 Solar and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are hosting two free workshops that will outline utility, state and federal programs that help fund solar energy installations for rural small businesses and farms.

Attendees will learn about:

• Utility cash incentive programs that lessen the initial cost of installation.

• How solar energy systems work to reduce utility operating expenses.

• Federal tax incentives, including the 30% federal Investment Tax Credit and accelerated depreciation schedules.

• Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) application process and timeline.

• Warranty and operation of a solar system.

The USDA REAP grant program was established in the 2002 Farm Bill to assist eligible farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses in purchasing renewable energy systems. The purpose of the USDA grant funds is to finance and develop small and emerging private business enterprises in rural areas.

The USDA is accepting applications for its Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) throughspring of 2014. The competitive grant program provides tens of millions of dollars to each year to farms and rural small businesses. All central Oregon businesses except for those in the Bend city limits qualify for the program.

The event is free and open to the public.

Workshop times are from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
