Community support needed for chance to win $10,000 ASPCA grant.
Equine Outreach Inc. will be celebrating the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) national Help A Horse Day on April 26 and competing for a chance to win one of five $10,000 grant prizes to assist with their efforts to protect horses.
To celebrate the day, Equine Outreach will kick off the event at 11:30 am with a ribbon cutting, celebrating the completion of phase one of their new multi-purpose barn and honoring the many people who made it possible, business’ like the ASPCA, Steele and Associates Architects, Hooker Creek Rental and Concrete, Jack Robinson and Sons, Ridgeline Metal, Pro Build and Central Oregon Pole Buildings to name a few, followed by local singer and songwriter Kurt Silva singing a song he wrote for Helen, one of our blind equine residents, Silva will be joined by Kelly Riley and Peter Lupi to entertain the volunteers during the day.
Bring your family, work shoes and join in a work party with Oregon Youth Challenge, clean a trough, pick a pen, brush a horse or simply take a tour of the ranch and meet our rescues. A light lunch will be provided for the first 100 visitors.
This nationwide competition is for equine rescues and sanctuaries to raise awareness about the lifesaving work they do year-round to care for at-risk horses in their community who have been abused or neglected. Horses have been central to the ASPCA’s work since its founding 148 years ago, when Henry Bergh stopped a cart driver from beating his horse, resulting in the first successful arrest for the mistreatment of a horse on April 26, 1866.
“The ASPCA Help A Horse Day contest is a wonderful opportunity for our team to welcome the residents and businesses of Bend, OR to our ranch and to help spread awareness about the at-risk horses in our community who are in need of forever homes,” said Cyndi Davis, Executive Director of Equine Outreach Rescue. “Horses are majestic, loving, healing animals, and we hope our local supporters will come out on April 26, from 11:00-3 to help us win a $10,000 grant so that we can buy much needed hay. It’s like air, we can’t live without it”
