Bend studio is the first Oregon location for the nationwide franchise.

Bend’s Old Mill District will welcome a new Pure Barre fitness studio next month. Locally owned and operated, this is the nationwide franchise’s first Oregon location. The new studio, which is scheduled to open mid-May, is located on the north end between Desperado and Jimmy John’s with access on the eastside of the building. Pure Barre has more than 200 studios nationwide, and offers clients an effective, results-oriented workout centered around a ballet barre.

Erin Anderson, owner of the new studio, said, “I fell in love with the Pure Barre workout, and that’s why I am starting this business. The technique creates a mind-body consciousness that allows participants to center their minds on each moment of the workout. It is the perfect fit for the dynamic people of Bend, from beginners to athletes.”

Anderson was an art historian for the last 15 years, working at Sotheby’s auction house in London, galleries in New York, and eventually teaching at Montana State in Bozeman. After starting to take Pure Barre classes in Montana two years ago, she came to believe so strongly in the concept that she changed her entire career path to purchase the franchise. She moved to Bend with her husband in 2013.

Anderson said, “We chose to locate the studio in the Old Mill District because it is such a communal, lovely, centralized location. One of my favorite activities when I was doing classes in Bozeman was to grab a coffee or drink with friends after class and then do a little shopping. The Old Mill District is the perfect place for this, plus the river is right there for paddle boarding, biking or just enjoying the beauty in our backyard.”

The Pure Barre technique is unique because it is non-impact and can be done by clients of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. The program’s total body workout utilizes the ballet barre to perform small, isometric movements, which burn fat, sculpt muscles and create long, lean physiques. Hours and schedule of classes will be available soon on the Pure Barre website at www.purebarre.com/bend-or.

Pure Barre is the largest, most established barre franchise in the nation, with more than 180 studios across the country, and more opening every month. Pure Barre was founded by dancer, choreographer and fitness guru Carrie Rezabek Dorr. Carrie opened her first studio in the basement of an office building in Birmingham, Michigan in 2001. In July of 2009, Pure Barre became a franchise and has exploded in popularity, due to its extremely effective technique; friendly, high-energy atmosphere; and fun, motivating music. In addition to classes, Pure Barre also offers DVDs, equipment and exercise apparel.
