The Redmond School District Board of Directors has ratified contract agreements with the Redmond Education Association and Oregon School Employees Association (OSEA) Chapter #84 for the 2014-2015 fiscal year for its teachers and classified employees with a 1.5 percent cost of living adjustment.

Both associations were able to meet, bargain and ratify their contracts before the end of May, 2014. Redmond Education Association and OSEA Chapter #84 both agreed to a 1.5 percent cost of living adjustment to their wage schedule. Additionally, license and classified employees will be placed at the appropriate place on the salary schedule based on years of experience, educational credits or other criteria effective July 1, 2014.

“This year’s contract was truly a collaborative effort,” shared Barry Branaugh, REA Bargaining Chair. “Both the district and the association did their best to recognize the needs of teachers as well as the needs of the district and its students as a whole.”

Redmond School District and Redmond Education Association agreed on the terms of a 190 work day contract calendar for teaching staff, which includes two potential work days in April and May if an increase in the district’s State School Fund is available. If the State School Fund Grant Estimate issued by the Oregon Department of Education in early 2015 does not provide increased revenue, both days will become non-contract and licensed employees will be paid based on a 188 day calendar through May of 2015.

“It was great to work with the district in this process,” said Sheri Solesbee, OSEA Treasurer and Bargaining Committee Member. “We know that financial resources are limited but it is great to see the district’s investment in our members.”

The Redmond School District Board of Directors voted to approve the OSEA Chapter #84 contract ratification on May 14 and on May 28, the board voted to approve the Redmond Education Association contract.

“I appreciate the cooperative efforts that Redmond Education Association and OSEA demonstrated throughout this year’s contract negotiations,” shared Mike McIntosh, Superintendent. “We have established a fair and transparent bargaining process. It is both rewarding and encouraging that both associations shared with us a vision for student success.”
