The City of Bend has named five finalists for the Police Chief position. :
- · Michael Davis – retired Chief from the Brentwood, CA Police Department and currently California Standards Board, State Peace Officer Standards and Training; Senior Consultant
- George Delgado – a Commander from the Vancouver, WA Police Department
- · John Foster – current Chief of the Grass Valley, CA Police Department
- · Garr Nielsen – current Chief of the Eureka, CA Police Department, and former Multnomah County Sheriff’s Captain
- ·Jeffry Sale – current Chief of the Cheney, WA Police Department, and former Washington State Patrol Lieutenant
The City began a nationwide search for a new Police Chief in April with search firm Prothman & Associates. Twenty-two qualified applicants were identified and five finalists chosen for interviews, which are scheduled for the week of June 20. The new Police Chief will replace Sandi Baxter, who is retiring. Baxter began her public safety career as a part-time police reserve with the City in 1977. She became a full-time officer in 1979 and retired from the department in September 2007. City Manager Eric King asked her to rejoin the force and appointed her Chief in April 2008.
