Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon announces The GREAT Community Challenge for Kids. The challenge is a call to action for Central Oregon businesses, asking them to make financial contributions to the clubs. Individual volunteers are being asked to donate their time and expertise to the program, specifically linking academics with future career pathways. Together businesses and individuals will contribute to the strengthening of the Central Oregon economy and community by supporting the clubs’ programs that help to better prepare area youth for college and careers.
Through The GREAT Community Challenge for Kids campaign, local businesses can pledge $1,500 scholarships, which will cover the actual annual average cost for youth members to attend the clubs. The campaign will also include the opportunity for four local businesses to support the club at the $5,000 level as year-round program sponsors, while one business will be the exclusive underwriter for the campaign. There will also be three other opportunities for businesses to sponsor the clubs: the 14th Annual Golf Tournament, the Be GREAT Luncheon, slated for September 2014 and the Central Oregon Thanksgiving Day Classic. Individual donors are invited to contribute to and attend any and all of these events.
Boys and Girls Clubs mission is to serve all kids, especially those most in need. Keeping programs affordable and accessible to all is a key objective, and vital to the clubs remaining a valuable Deschutes County resource. Club participation increased 21 percent in 2013 to 1,860 youth members. Of those members, 74 percent need some sort of financial assistance.
This summer, program fees will be raised modestly. The after school program fees will be raised from $50 per month to $70 per month. The summer program fees will be raised from $80 per week to $100 per week. For families needing financial assistance, a sliding scale fee structure and simple application form ensures any youth member can gain access to the Club. Details regarding program fees and summer registration will be posted on the website beginning March 1.
