Opportunity Foundation of Central Oregon has plenty to celebrate and invites the community to join them at their new Redmond Thrift Store across from Big R on September 12 from 11am to 3pm.
The day-long celebration marks the Opportunity Foundation’s 50th anniversary. For five decades the Opportunity Foundation has worked to improve the lives of people with intellectual/developmental disabilities by offering residential, vocational, social and recreational programs and services in the tri-county area. During that time, they have touched thousands of lives in Central Oregon.
Along with their anniversary, the public is invited to the Grand Opening of Opportunity Foundation’s new Redmond Thrift Store, located at 3294 S Hwy 97. Staffed mostly by individuals who are enrolled in Opportunity Foundation programs and services, the store plays an important part in the organization’s Supported Employment Program by giving supported persons hands-on retail experience.
The new, larger Redmond store is conveniently located across from Big R and is open Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 6pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to 5pm.
Suzanne Michaels, Opportunity Foundation’s development director, states, “It is such an honor to have served Central Oregon for the last five decades. We are pleased with all we have been able to accomplish and are grateful to our amazing community for their support as we work to empower people with diverse abilities. We look forward to this day of celebration and to many more years of success.”
Country Boy BBQ and Catering will be serving up burgers, pulled pork, brats, slaw and beans to hungry attendees free of charge. This family-friendly event will feature giveaways throughout the day with the help of Sam Albert of radio station 101.7 who will broadcast from a live remote from 11am to 1pm. Ol’ Front Porch Bluegrass Band will take the stage from 1pm to 3pm with their mix of hand-clapping, foot-stomping fun.
