Most women are familiar with mammography and conventional handheld breast ultrasound. Few have heard of the QT scanner.

Beginning July 13, 2026, women in Oregon will have the opportunity to learn about this breast imaging technology with the opening of Perk Imaging, the first clinic in the state to offer QT Breast Imaging technology.

Perk Imaging was founded on a simple belief: women deserve to understand their options.

The clinic’s mission is to educate women about breast health and breast screening by providing accurate information about established breast screening recommendations as well as additional breast imaging technologies. Rather than telling women what screening they should choose, Perk Imaging encourages women to become informed and have meaningful conversations with their healthcare providers based on their individual health needs.

“Women deserve to know they have choices,” said Amanda Johnson, founder of Perk Imaging and a Nurse Practitioner with more than 25 years of healthcare experience. “Our mission is to educate women about breast health and breast screening. We believe women deserve accurate information about established breast screening recommendations as well as additional breast imaging technologies. Our goal is to help women have informed conversations with their healthcare providers and make decisions based on their individual health needs. Healthcare should never be one-size-fits-all because every woman’s journey is unique.”

Creating a Different Kind of Healthcare Experience

After more than 25 years in healthcare, Johnson wasn’t looking to open another medical office.

She was searching for innovative, safe, non-invasive technologies that could complement the care she provides and help women learn more about their breast health.

When she discovered the QT scanner, she realized many women had never heard of the technology.

That realization became the foundation for Perk Imaging.

“I wanted to bring something new to Oregon while creating the kind of healthcare experience I would want for myself, my loved ones, and every woman who walks through our doors,” Johnson said. “The technology is important, but so is the experience.”

Recognizing Central Oregon’s growing population and strong commitment to health and wellness, Johnson chose Bend as the home of Oregon’s first QT Breast Imaging center.

As an independently owned, woman-owned practice, Perk Imaging was intentionally designed to feel different from what many people expect from a medical office. Every detail—from the clinic environment to each patient interaction—was created to help women feel welcomed, comfortable, respected, and heard.

“We hope every woman leaves our clinic feeling more informed, more comfortable, and more confident discussing her breast health with her healthcare provider,” Johnson said.

Understanding the QT Scanner

Many women assume all breast ultrasound exams are the same, but there are different types of breast imaging technology.

Unlike a conventional handheld breast ultrasound, which produces two-dimensional (2D) images while a sonographer evaluates specific areas of the breast, the QT scanner is a dedicated breast imaging system that uses sound waves to create detailed three-dimensional (3D) images of the breast.

During the exam, women lie comfortably on a specially designed table while the QT scanner captures the images. The examination does not use radiation or breast compression, and all images are interpreted by board-certified breast radiologists.

The goal of Perk Imaging is not to replace established breast screening recommendations, but to increase awareness that women have access to additional breast imaging technologies and encourage informed conversations with their healthcare providers.

“Many women are surprised to learn this technology exists,” Johnson said. “If our clinic helps even one woman learn about a breast imaging technology she didn’t know existed, ask a question she otherwise wouldn’t have asked, or feel more confident discussing her breast health with her healthcare provider, then we’ve accomplished exactly what we set out to do.”
