In the heart of Central Oregon’s vibrant city of Bend, a beacon of quality and comfort continues to thrive. Patio World, a family-owned business, has been a trusted source for premium outdoor furnishings and personalized service for over three decades.
Now celebrating their 2.5-year anniversary at their west side location, Patio World has solidified its role as a destination for homeowners seeking quality outdoor living. The move has marked a dynamic chapter in the business’ story, defined by growth, fresh energy, and a deepening commitment to quality.
At the helm is Eric Holmer, who carries forward the vision and values instilled by his father and business founder, Scott Holmer. While Scott remains a guiding presence behind the scenes, Eric oversees day-to-day operations, ushering in a new era while staying true to the brand’s roots.
Patio World’s journey began in 1988, when the Holmer family relocated from Minnesota to Bend. Drawing from their experience operating a successful ski and patio business back home, they laid the foundation for what would become a community staple. The family even built the structure that now houses Pine Mountain Sports, a lasting symbol of their connection to the area.
Originally known as The Lift Ski and Patio, the business underwent a pivotal transformation in 1997 with the addition of Race Place, a specialty ski racing equipment brand. This transition allowed the Holmers to deepen their commitment to high-end outdoor furniture and refocus on their passion for creating welcoming, stylish spaces for outdoor enjoyment. They would go on to operate out of their Reed Market location for over 20 years, building a loyal customer base and a reputation for excellence.
In 2021, the decision to relocate to the west side of Bend was a strategic move. “We started construction at the end of 2021 and are going into 2022. R&H Construction was awesome! We opened our doors in October 2022, and the response has been amazing,” Eric Holmer shares. “We’ve seen a big jump in foot traffic since moving — being on the west side and having more visibility has been a game-changer.”
The spacious and thoughtfully designed showroom offers an immersive experience for customers seeking premium outdoor sets, fire pits, umbrellas, and more. Despite the shifting market landscape, Patio World remains steadfast in its refusal to compromise on quality. “We’re not interested in chasing the lowest price point,” says Holmer. “We’d rather stand behind every product we sell and give our customers peace of mind with long-lasting, well-made pieces backed by strong warranties.”
Looking ahead, the focus remains on refinement rather than expansion. With many clients designing or furnishing custom homes, the business prioritizes personalized service, helping customers find the right fit for their unique outdoor spaces. Whether navigating HOA guidelines, maximizing deck space, or offering style guidance, the Patio World team brings decades of experience to each project.
Holmer also sees opportunities to collaborate more closely with contractors and designers, offering support during the planning phase to ensure clients make the most of their outdoor investments. With a diverse, curated showroom and a commitment to helping customers visualize their dream spaces, Patio World continues to set the bar for outdoor living in Central Oregon.
Patio World remains a beacon of consistency, quality, and community connection in a constantly evolving industry. As Central Oregonians continue to embrace the outdoor lifestyle, the Holmer family and their dedicated team stand ready, just as they have for over 35 years, to help elevate every patio, porch, and backyard with timeless style and enduring comfort.
