We all assume that new homes are good to go — everything in tip-top shape and working order. But what if there were a better option? Not just new — but truly better. What if there were homes that were healthier, more durable and saved tens of thousands of dollars of operating costs? What if they weren’t custom homes but market-rate homes?

Join The Environmental Center for a Power Hour with CR Herro, from nationally recognized, zero-energy production builder, Meritage Homes. Herrp will describe tangible solutions for spurring development of zero energy housing, highlighting key stakeholders and influencers in the process, and the business case for building better this Wednesday, June 24 at noon.

“People want better, they just sometimes think they are being sold a sacrifice,” says Herro. But what if sustainability wasn’t a compromise, but it was an improvement? What if it was better for the homeowners and the businesses in the homebuilding and homebuying marketplace?

“Sustainability done correctly isn’t about removing profitability, it’s about having a more holistic understanding of opportunities to drive value in the marketplace,” says Herro, who has a 25-year history of successful industry disruption and new business development for multi-billion dollar construction industries. When he joined Meritage Homes as the Vice President of Innovation, he led initiatives for performance, materials and process for High Production Residential Building.

Meritage now prides itself on “setting the standard for energy-efficient homes,” and is credited as the first home builder to achieve 100 percent certification to the U.S. EPA’s Energy Star for Homes, the first builder to certify all three U.S. EPA best building practices (Energy Star, Indoor airPLUS and WaterSense), and the first national production builder to offer Zero Energy Homes.

The event will be held virtually on Zoom on Wednesday, June 24 from 12-1:15pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive live answers from Herro. To receive the Zoom meeting information, sign up at envirocenter.org/power-hour

The Energy Challenge is a project of The Environmental Center and works to bridge the gap between resources and action that will reduce the amount of energy Central Oregon uses and increase the amount of home-grown renewable energy produced right here in Central Oregon. This event is hosted in partnership with Earth Advantage and Power Hour is made possible with support from Energy Trust of Oregon.
