Heaven Can Wait, a 17-year tradition in Central Oregon and one of the largest 5K races in the region, will be held on Sunday, June 5 in Bend’s Drake Park.
The event raises money for Sara’s Project, a fund of St. Charles Foundation that provides education, early detection and support services to ease the challenges of breast cancer for people in Central and Eastern Oregon.
Celebrated each year on National Cancer Survivor’s Day, Heaven Can Wait draws thousands of participants clad in pink gear in honor of their own cancer survivorship or the cancer journey of a loved one.
Since the inaugural race in 2000, Heaven Can Wait has raised more than $1 million for Sara’s Project. The money stays in the community to provide education, early detection and support services to ease the challenges of breast cancer for people in Central and Eastern Oregon.
Online registration for Heaven Can Wait is available through June 2 for $30 at heavencanwait.org. Registration is also available at FootZone in downtown Bend the day before the race for $35 and on race day for $40.
Heaven Can Wait 5K is looking for volunteers on race day for various jobs, including set-up, food tent, course marshals and water station. To sign up online, visit heavencanwait.org and click the link under “Volunteering” or call 541-706-9669.
