All proceeds from the celebration to benefit Bend’s Community Center and Bend Spay & Neuter Project on September 18.

In celebration of their grand opening, the crew at Rockin’ Dave’s Backstage Lounge is hosting a BBQ, brews and music party on the patio and in the Lounge on Sunday, September 18 from 4-7pm. The party is located just behind Rockin’ Dave’s Bistro – at 661 Greenwood.

Guests will enjoy live music from local bands Popcorn and Mai & Friends, ice cold beer donated by Boneyard Beer, a doggy kissing booth and plenty of incredible Rockin’ Dave’s BBQ.

To support the Bend Open Streets project taking place earlier in the day, all guests who walk or ride their bikes to the party will receive a free beer. Rockin’ Dave’s is a short walk from Juniper Swim and Fitness Center, one of the Activity Hubs for Bend Open Streets.

All proceeds benefit Bend’s Community Center and Bend Spay & Neuter Project (Bend SNIP). Bend’s Community Center’s mission is to build a strong community by providing resources for basic needs, job training, volunteer opportunities and a place that brings people together. Bend SNIP’s mission is to provide affordable, preventative veterinary care for cats and dogs at risk of suffering in order to create a more humane community. Both organizations will have staff and volunteers on site.

“I’m excited to share our new Backstage Lounge with the Rockin’ Dave’s fans, and to meet new people ready for another great dining and drinks option here on the East side,” said Rockin’ Dave’s owner, Dave Flier. “It’s really important to me to have this shindig benefit causes close to my heart – ones that make our community a better place. The people and businesses of Bend have supported me and my business through an actual fire, a medical crisis and through the economic downturn. Bend is an awesome place to live and work. Our team loves to give back whenever and wherever we can.”

The Backstage Lounge features local micro brews on tap, over a dozen varietals of wine, and premium cocktails mixed with house-made infusions. For some pre-show pre-funking, or just a fun and friendly atmosphere, visit to the Backstage Lounge located at 661 NE Greenwood Ave in Bend, behind Rockin’ Dave’s Bistro. The Backstage Lounge is open Tuesday through Saturday from 4pm-close.

Dave Flier, a.k.a. Rockin’ Dave, was born and raised in Central Illinois near his grandparents’ farm where his grandmother was always making something in the kitchen with the fruits and vegetables from their farm. This had a huge influence on Dave, and is a big part of why he loves the farm-to-table mentality.

“I feed a lot of people with my scratch cooking,” says Dave. “It’s important to me that I’m offering up delicious food that is also organic, local and as minimally processed as possible. I was brought up with this way of thinking about how we eat, and I get to share that with my guests.”

After a few cooking classes in high school, Dave was inspired to move on to Culinary School, followed by a stint at the Alpenglowe Stube, a fine-dining restaurant in Keystone, CO.

Dave moved to Bend in 2000, where his chef career continued – first at Broken Top Club and then at Cork restaurant in downtown Bend. For a time, Dave worked as a mobile sandwich peddler, which quickly evolved into a more gourmet and from scratch operation, featuring specialty entrées, salads and themed lunches. During this time, Dave worked hard, made many friends across Bend and began to envision a new future for him and for casual dining in Bend.

Dave opened Rockin’ Dave’s Bagel Bistro and Catering on Greenwood Avenue in 2007, offering award winning bagels, signature sandwiches, home-style cooking with fresh ingredients and out-of-this world breakfasts. Rockin’ Dave’s also offers full service catering for everything from a light brunch with friends, to an elegantly plated dinner for special events.

The newest project for Dave is the Rockin’ Dave’s Backstage Lounge, a night-time dinner house restaurant in the back of Rockin’ Dave’s bistro. His made-from-scratch philosophy continues with his newest endeavor.

Outside of the restaurant, you’ll find Dave rockin’ out to his favorite band (Pearl Jam), attending local events and working hard to support the community that has been so generous to him.
