In collaboration with the Central Oregon STEM Hub and the AAUW Bend Branch, the OSU-Cascades AAUW Student Organization is honored to host an evening with Dr. Bonnie Buratti.

Dr. Buratti is a Senior Research Scientist and technical manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, with expertise on the structure and evolution of icy moons and other small bodies. She is currently serving on the science teams for both the Cassini and New Horizons missions and she was recently named the NASA Project Scientist for the Rosetta Mission to a comet. The author or coauthor of over 200 scientific papers, Dr. Buratti was awarded the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, and the International Astronomical Union recognized her work by naming asteroid 90502 “Buratti,” after her. Her book, Worlds Fantastic, Worlds Familiar, will be published later this year.

Dr. Buratti will share her journey to becoming an astrophysicist as well as what it takes to become a scientist and what she currently studies. We invite middle school and high school students to bring their families and join us. Come learn about mentorship and community learning opportunities for youth interested in pursuing STEM education. A question & answer session will follow the presentation.

This event was made possible through support provided by American Association of University Women (AAUW). The opinions expressed herein are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of AAUW.
