Struggling with Slow Internet Connection? Try these Tips!

0

In a world where the Internet is almost considered a basic need, dealing with a slow internet connection can be quite an infuriating experience. Luckily, there are some things you can do on your own to speed up your Internet connection. Some of these tips might not even require you to be that tech-savvy.

So, if you are experiencing any kind of slow internet speed, then you should try these tips:

Check Your Current Plan

One of the main reasons you experience a slow internet speed is because of the current internet plan you have. To find out more about your current plan, you can either call your Internet Service Provider or go directly to their website.

Another option you can do is by going to the website fast.com or perhaps speedtest.net to check your current speed. If the resulting speed is close to your current plan, in any case, then nothing is wrong with your internet connection.

If you experience a slow internet connection because of your current internet plan, then it would be best to look for some alternate internet plans or just upgrade your current one.

Give your modem a quick reset

Before you go to any extreme measures, you should first do a quick reset on your modem. There are two kinds of resets that you should try if the first one doesn’t affect your internet speed.

First of all, do a soft reset by pushing the reset button found in your modem. If a reset button is not found in your modem, then you should look for the power button instead. So what you need to do is to power off your modem for about 3-5 minutes, then turn it back on.

For a hard reset, you will have to unplug the modem while it is still powered on, then after 3-5 minutes, plug it back in.

Upgrade Your Router

Sometimes the router that we get from our Internet Service Providers aren’t really that good, and over time they will start to act up. One thing you can do about this is by upgrading your router. You can either request one from your service provider, or you can try purchasing one in your nearest computer store. Sometimes, it is not the current speed plan you have but rather the hardware itself that can’t keep up anymore.

Contact Your Service Provider

There are times that errors will occur on the part of our service provider. These errors can sometimes cause our internet speed to slow down quite significantly despite the internet plans that we currently have. If you noticed that your internet speed isn’t the same as before, there might be a problem on your Internet Service Provider’s side.

The best thing to do for this kind of scenario is to contact them and let them figure out why your Internet is acting up. Usually, they will provide you with a bunch of basic troubleshooting steps at first. Still, if it doesn’t remedy the problem, they will resort to the technical side. They will most likely reset your internet connection on their end. No worries though, none of your data will be affected with their reset.

Final Words

Slow internet connections can happen sometimes, and it will usually go back to normal after a few hours. If you want to avoid any stress, you can try and wait it out for a bit and let it resolve on its own. Sometimes, there is a good side with a slow internet connection; you will be a lot more productive since you won’t be able to procrastinate that much.
