Sun Country Tours will officially kick off its 38th season of providing
professionally guided, world-class whitewater rafting adventures on May 1. The acclaimed outfitter is a TripAdvisor Hall of Fame award winner, having earned the Certificate of Excellence from the world’s largest travel website for five consecutive years.
Founded in 1978 by Dennis Oliphant, Sun Country Tours has steadily grown from its humble beginnings as a garage-based operation to one of the most respected river outfitters in the west. Sun Country Tours now employs over 90 people seasonally, and provides four whitewater rafting trips on three Oregon rivers including the Upper and Lower Deschutes, the McKenzie and the North Umpqua.

The above-average snowpack in Oregon has experts optimistic about river levels.
“Rafting season should be exciting this year,” says Kyle Gorman, Regional Manager of the Oregon Department of Water Resources. “There will be above average flows in the Upper Deschutes River, and overall the water supply is much improved from last year.”
In addition to whitewater rafting, Sun Country Tours also offers stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and river float tubing from its seasonal location in Riverbend Park. The outfitter provides SUP lessons, rentals and tours, as well as float tube rentals, from Memorial Day through Labor Day in partnership with Bend Park and Recreation District.
