A new feature on the BottleDrop Redemption Center website is making it easier than ever to support local charities and fundraising groups while keeping bottles and cans out of Oregon streams and landfills.

Nonprofit organizations can register to be featured on www.bottledropcenters.com, allowing the existing 80,000 BottleDrop account holders to make direct donations to Featured Fundraising accounts online.

Anybody with a BottleDrop account can donate to a registered charity of their choice simply by redeeming bottles and cans and transferring the funds to a BottleDrop Featured Fundraising account. Charities that have been approved as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit by the IRS can apply for a BottleDrop fundraising account online at www.bottledropcenters.com/fundraising. All donated funds go directly to the featured charity organization.

Several non-profits are already actively using the BottleDrop site to raise funds for their organizations. “We have raised money with bottles and cans in the past to send our boys to the National Jamboree,” says Daydra Blackburn of Boy Scout Troop 376. “This will be a great way for more people to be able to donate.”

BottleDrop Redemption Centers are owned and operated by Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC). They are stand-alone facilities that offer consumers several options to return deposit containers, including the BottleDrop Account Program. This program allows consumers to fill green BottleDrop bags at home or work and drop them off at one of our 14 BottleDrop locations. BottleDrop staff count the containers and transfer the deposits onto the customer’s account. BottleDrop accounts can be managed at any of our BottleDrop Redemption Centers, at participating grocery stores, or online at www.bottledropcenters.com.

Over the past decade, OBRC has proudly supported nonprofits throughout Oregon in their Bottle Bill fundraising efforts by giving them the opportunity to bring in large loads of deposit containers for reimbursement by check. OBRC is excited to offer this additional opportunity for local charities to increase their fundraising reach and efforts.

OBRC is a member-owned, cooperative corporation that acts on behalf of beverage distributors to administer Oregon’s bottle bill; collecting and processing nearly all containers sold and redeemed in Oregon. OBRC counts, sorts, crushes, bales, and recycles 1.2 billion containers each year. Nothing goes to waste – 100% of the bottle and cans are recycled. The entire process is funded and managed by the beverage and grocery industries – at no cost to taxpayers.
