Summer is almost here and we have a full slate of programs scheduled for you to experience the best of the warmer months in Central Oregon (read below for more details). But, if you need a little convincing, Oregon Adaptive Sports (OAS) athlete Dave Nichols has ten reasons you should participate with us this summer! Here is a sample from Dave’s article:

“OAS has allowed me to continue doing what I love — adventuring outdoors. OAS offers a wide variety of outings. These are some of the reasons I am a past, present and future participant with OAS:

I’m flooded with great memories when I am out in nature in familiar places. Whether it’s riding along the Deschutes River, kayaking Hosmer Lake, or carving up the slopes of Bachelor, just being outside is guaranteed to make my day better.

I get to be around a diverse group of people. OAS serves folks of all ages and different disabilities which allows me to learn new perspectives.

I feel like I’m thriving! It puts a smile on my face that I can still do, and adapt, many of the same activities people thought I’d never do again. It also builds confidence because I keep seeing my improvements.”

Below is a sample of programs OAS is offering this summer! Visit the events page on our website to view even more programs, to learn more about each and to sign up!

Mountain Biking

Adaptive Mountain Bike Lessons!

OAS is offering private mountain bike lessons this summer. Much like our winter programs, athletes can sign up for a private experience to receive professional and individualized instruction while testing out the latest in adaptive mountain bike equipment. We expect these slots to fill fast, so sign up now!

Learn to Crank Camp!

In addition to private lessons, OAS is hosting a camp once per month for a small group to develop their trail riding skills. These camps are open to individuals who use off road handcycles and will feature a progression of skill and challenge. Learn more and sign up here!

Community Programs

All community programs are offered at no cost to all athletes. Special thanks to the Cycle Oregon Fund who generously awarded a grant to OAS to support our 2022 community cycling programs!

Cycling

Thanks to our continued partnership with the Bend Park and Recreation District, OAS will again be hosting FREE cycling at Pine Nursery Park! Join us Wednesday evenings for Bike Night or Saturday mornings for Rise and Ride. Advanced sign up is recommended but not required! Programs begin June 8.

Golf

Come work on your swing this summer at Awbrey Glen Golf Club! We’ve expanded each session and added a fifth night on the calendar. Golf starts next week on May 31! Learn more and sign up here!

Hiking

Join us for a once monthly hike out of Riverbend Park or for our Explore Oregon series as we venture out into the Deschutes National Forest. This program is popular with individuals with visual impairments and OAS has a team of guides ready to support these outings!

More events and programs are listed on the OAS events page!
