In celebration of Earth Day, VegNet will be holding a Spring Wellness Jumpstart event at the Tower Theatre on Sunday April 17 at 4pm.  They will be screening the film PlantPure Nation which focuses on the healthy aspects of adopting a plant-based diet, as well as the struggles to do so.

Following the screening, there will be a Q and A featuring a panel of experts in the field of plant-based medicine including two medical doctors, a nurse practitioner, a psychologist and a dietician.  This will kick off a month long mentoring campaign to help transition people to a plant-based life, which is not only good for health, but good for the environment.  The event is free, but donations are accepted.

“It is estimated that about 80 percent of all chronic diseases are attributed to lifestyle.  One of the best ways to reduce the risk for, or even reverse, diseases like type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, hypertension, and obesity is to adopt a mainly whole foods, plant-based diet,” noted Dr. Brenda Johnson, a Bend-based internal medicine physician who is opening Johnson Lifestyle Medicine LLC in order to help patients focus on these healthy habits.

“This type of dietary lifestyle is for your health, the animals and the planet,” stated Judy Petullo of VegNet Bend.  “We are excited that so many individuals and groups have come out to sponsor the film including St. Charles Medical Center and a host of restaurants, businesses and non-profits.”

VegNet was founded in 2008 by Judy Petullo.   The non-profit promotes education and demonstration of the healthiest lifestyle: a plant-based diet for our bodies, our world, and all the creatures who share it.
