What’s Brewing in Prineville?

When the idea of Open Campus was first introduced, no one knew for certain what it would look like. What classes would be offered? Who would attend those classes? Where classes would be held? But expectations were high. Especially after it was announced in July 2010 that Crook County received a $3.9 million federal BTOP (Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program) grant to help pay for a building, technology and staff for three years.

Three years later Open Campus is flourishing. Classrooms are full. Students are doing college credit work toward an associates degree. A masters program is offered in Business Administration. Entrepreneurs are learning how to build a successful business. Community ed classes from RV maintenance and sewing to using an iPhone and Photoshop are offered to the general public. On some days, you are lucky to find a space in the parking lot on Lynn Boulevard.

This Wednesday, Jason Carr, Tim Deboodt, and Suzie Kristensen will highlight the accomplishments of Open Campus and talk about what might be the future of higher education in Crook County. The possibilities are wide open.
